Penang - Brown Hawk-Owl

Today sighting was nice though the video was not as expected. Nevertheless with very poor light and slow shutter speed. The Brown Hawk-Owl which is more commonly known as the Brown Boobook this days was basically due to the call of the bird. Big Thanks to those who assisted me to get a shot of this species helping to hold the torch and so on. Also thanks to those who called out the owl and help spot the owl for us in which enable this shot to be taken.

Pahang/Selangor - Orange-breasted Trogon

While searching for some ground bird this bird decided to come close at a point where I do not have much room to move. Still I never want to miss a beautiful bird such as this one. Having not a guiding trip I always take the opportunity to get one photo of this species. Having common at certain altitude, this species such is still found all the down to lowland. Great to find this species with my first photo of it as well.

NCRRU - Lesser Fish Eagle (Nikon P90 eye)

This was taken almost 4 year ago too when I got my toy. The Lesser Fish-Eagle can be said to be only forest dwelling fish eagle know to this country or perhaps the world. A species which is commonly seen in forest stream such as in Merapoh, Kuala Tahan, Kenyir, Temmenggor, Pedu and also Ulu Muda. This species is also being the smallest among the three sea and fish eagle in the country have some modification making the species to look more like a normal eagle compare to fish eagle. However having plumage almost similar to the Grey-headed Fish-Eagle, it thus make their identification a little challenging at time. Juvenile post a great identification challenge but once learn their difference you wander why you even confuse them.

This individual in photo was taken in Kuala Lumpur district itself. Making my way to the location for the first time my aim was very clear to see this species. It did not take us long before finding one individual on a tree. Nevertheless it has already been year where sighting such as this one in KL area remain rare. What we can be sure off is that active nest have been observed in a few location which would be a great assets to their survival. Hopefully those in this location continue to nest and produce success eaglet every year.

Little Pied Flycatcher (Nikon P90 eye)

I still remember over 4 year ago I decided to purchase my first own camera which can assist me in bird watching. I started off with a superzoom camera the Nikon P90. I'm actually glad to have stat as many photo taken through that camera was never redo again till today. Hmm thinking of it perhaps I should redo with my DSLR and digiscope now. Anyway those day birding in Fraser's is much batter then today. Such as this Little Pied Flycatcher where both male and female provide easy target and out in the open. I guess many people who did photography during those time never miss this shot. Anyway I'm still own this camera and every now and then I used it during my own trip. It serve me well during those time but today many superzoom camera have very good spec with them including HD video which not in the Nikon P90. Anyway just to share 2 picture of the Flycatcher I took up in Fraser's Many years ago.
